hahaha... very intresting. Like the question is space colored. You have two answers depending on your question of color.

well. there would be no light rays hitting the substance so it would not give off any color.

But truly this is a trick question. According to the Descartes-Locke tradition color is a non-real substance and only exists in the perception.

So in reality either way it has no color. to simplify this

When we use the word "colour" we use it in two senses.

"Colour"-A :

The first we have seen is a physical description of a specific wavelength(s) of EM radiation (as in "the red range of the EM spectrum").

"Colour"-B :

The second is a quale, the actual mental sensation that occurs when we see "that colour ("the apple is red").

I think it is quite easy to show that "Colour"-A is a non-scientific appropriation of the words by scientists as a sort of shorthand which saves them from actually remembering the wavelength of red light and refering to it as "EM waves with a wavelength of x." It is just easier to say "red light". What they are actually refering to is "EM waves with a wavelength of x." So their use of the word "colour" conveys no meaning over and above the longhand physical description. To use "Colour"-B we do not need to know anything at all EM light all.

A small child with absolutely no knowledge of physics whatsoever learns "red" as one of the first words in his vocabulary, and the one and only thing he can possibly be refering to is the quale. The thing about this is, it does not exist to our knowledge. The EM rays exist but the perception in our mind is not proven to exist. All it is is a perception. we have no gaurentee what we percieve as red actually exists in the temporal reality. And like I said teh Descarted-Locke tradition believes that it does not exist at all except in our minds.

Either way there is no color to the egg. the question is is there color to the milk at all?

In one sense objects do have colors but this is not the sense in which objects are represented as having colors; while in the other sense, objects are represented as having colors, but these are not properties which objects actually have.[Descartes-Locke tradition]

well it wasn't that big of a trick. Just simple color theory.I also beefed up my response, to give some more info to those who didn't understand why...
